Ramapo Season Opener Results
NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT indoor track and field squads competed at the Ramapo Season Opener and Spartan Regional Invitation Friday afternoon.
At the Spartan Regional Invitation,
Nasiem Chandler claimed the NJIT Indoor long jump record with a distance of 7.38m.
Kwaku Amponsah took sixth with a distance of 6.84m and registered a third-place finish in the men's 60 meter run with a time of 7.05. Chandler's distance of 7.38m qualifies the sophomore fot the IC4A's at the end of the season.
Senior
Ryan Budhu captured the men's 500 meter run, clocking in with the second fastest individual time at NJIT.
The men's 4x400 meter relay, which consisted of
Alex Ortega,
Acacio Escada,
Matt Bacchi and Budhu captured the title with a time of 3:23.8, earning eight points for NJIT.
Mike Russell clocked in with a time of 4:32.50 in the men's mile while Ortega and
Gavin Camby took sixth and ninth respectively in the men's 800 run.
Miku Okada took fourth in the women's high jump with a height of 1.60m followed by
Esther Daramola and
Sydne Nance, who rounded out the top 10.
Daramola placed 10
th in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.04m while Nance took seventh in the women's 400 meter run at 1:00.93.
In the women's shot put, senior
Shannon Turner turned in an eighth place performance with a distance of 13.68m, a new NJIT record.
NJIT's women's distance medley, which consisted of
Chloe Jelley,
Sae Almeida,
Stuti Vyas and
Kelly DiCristina placed third with a time of 13:15.31.
Competing in the Ramapo Season Opener, freshman
Elyssa Stephano placed 11
th in the 400 meter run.
In the men's pole vault, senior
Calvin Gould placed third with a height of 4.40m (14-05.25), earning 10 points while junior
Issa Feknous finished in the top 10 with a height of 3.80m (12-05.50) for the Highlanders.
