NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT women's soccer team will conclude its ASUN Conference weekend series on Sunday at Jacksonville. Kickoff is slated for 1pm.
All-Time Series
Jacksonville leads the all-time series, 2-1. NJIT picked up a 1-0 win over the Dolphins on October 9, 2015 on the lone goal scored by
Carly Berdan.
Last Time Out
Sophomore
Nicole Loehle's penalty kick lifted NJIT to a 1-0 over ASUN Conference opponent North Florida at Hodges Stadium on Friday night.
Loehle, who scored her first career goal, converted her penalty kick in the final minute in the first half after a handball foul in the box.
Scouting the Highlanders
NJIT, winners of the last four out of five contests, enters Sunday's contest with an 8-3-1 overall mark, 2-1-0 record in the ASUN Conference. The Highlanders are 4-2 on the road this season.
With a win on Sunday, NJIT will have matched the win-output total from the 2017 season when the Highlanders finished 9-8, an NJIT D1 record.
After a season-opening loss to defending MAAC Regular season and tournament champions Monmouth, the Highlanders went 5-0-1 over the next six games. NJIT has posted six shutouts on the season, most recently, 1-0 win at North Florida.
The 3-2 overtime win over UMBC is the first win in overtime for the Highlanders since 2012 when NJIT defeated South Carolina State on October 20.
Freshman
Fiona Wright, who became NJIT's Division I leader with goals in a season, after scoring a pair of goals against Liberty last weekend, has combined for seven goals and 14 points. Her seven goals ranks second in the ASUN and tied for 26th in the nation.
Sophomore
Katrina Nguyen-DeMary paces the Highlanders with four assists, which ranks tied for seventh in the ASUN.
Graduate student
Amelia Sapirman, who is coming off a personal-best performance, stopping 13 shots against North Florida, ranks in the top 5 of the ASUN Conference in saves (64), save percentage (.831) and goals against average (1.66).
Scouting Jacksonville
Jacksonville will enter Sunday's match with a 1-9-1 overall mark, 1-2 in the ASUN.
The Dolphins picked up a 1-0 win over Stetson on September 23 for the teams only win in league action. Sarah Alexander scored the game-winner in the 65th minute against Stetson for the Dolphins' first win of the season and head coach Laura Kane's first career win.
Most recently, Jacksonville dropped a 2-0 decision at Kennesaw State on Friday.
Jacksonville has only scored four goals on the season, led by Sarah Alexander, who paces the team with a pair of goals.
Four different Dolphins have scored one goal. Madicynn Harnish is the team leader in assists with two.
Next Up
NJIT will play three of its last four matches at home on the campus of Kean University East Campus Facility. The Highlanders will welcome FGCU on October 4 at 3pm.
