ANNAPOLIS, MD - The NJIT women's tennis opened its 2018 campaign at the Navy Invitational Friday.
"Certainly winning 100% of our singles matches today is a good start for the tournament", said head coach Abdelrahman Zaki. "I am satisfied for how the girls executed. Advaita (Saravanan) played fantastic and came back with a very strong win against a tough top player in Navy after a long battle. Also, happy to see freshman Joleta (Budiman) win her first college match and advance to the second round."
The Highlanders posted four singles wins.
Sophomore
Advaita Saravanan defeated Kaylah Hodge from Navy with a comeback victory 4-6, 6-4, 13-11.
Mikaya Hamilton won against FDU's Carolin Menzen 7-5, 2-6, 10-4 and
Joleta Budiman and
Mayar Eltony were both victorious over Lehigh.
In doubles,
Holly Matson and
Rafaella Sampaio defeated Stony Brook duo, 6-3.
The Highlanders will continue play at the Invitational Saturday.
