Highlights
PISCATAWAY, NJ—The NJIT men's 4x400 relay team placed second at the 2018 Metropolitan Championships, setting a new school-record Saturday at the Beuer Track and Field Complex hosted by Rutgers.
The NJIT men placed third overall out of 12 teams, combining for 87 points behind Rutgers (189) and Manhattan (181) while the women finished eighth out of 12 teams.
The 4x400 relay team which consisted of
Alex Ortega,
Ali Merdan,
Daniel Leung and
Ryan Budhu placed second with a time of 3:20.26, good for a new NJIT school-record.
Freshman
Connor Penrod captured the men's decathlon, combining for 5392 points, taking first in the men's 100 meter run, 400 meter hurdles and 110 meter hurdles.
In the men's 100 meter run, three Highlanders placed in the top six – Leung (second),
Kwaku Amponsah (third) and
Emmanuel Agyen (sixth).
Budhu placed sixth in the men's 1500 meter run, finishing under four minutes (3:57.79), adding another record to the book.
Freshman
Brian Azevedo took sixth in the men's 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.42.
Miku Okada earned third place in the women's pole vault with a height of 2.56m (8-04.75) and women's high jump 1.60m (5-3).
