NEWARK, NJ – NJIT women's tennis fell 4-3 in a close match to North Florida on Thursday afternoon.
"We played our good level of tennis, we started well and got the Doubles point", said head coach
Zaki Abdelrahman. "Mayar and Holly put us on the lead 3/1 after winning their singles in two sets with no problems. We did not take advantage of the chances we had to finish the game to our favor. The Highlanders won two out of three doubles matches.
Advaita Saravanan and
Amanda Helminsky defeated Lucia Montano and Eva Nyikos 6-2 in second doubles and
Mayar Eltony and
Alba Rosas Garcia won against Florencia Rossi and Valentina Mariotto 6-3 in third doubles play.
Eltony and
Holly Matson were NJIT's only two winners in singles play.
In second singles Eltony beat Nyikos in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 and Matson defeated Montano in third singles 6-3, 6-2.
The Highlanders continue ASUN play on Saturday, March 31 for Senior Day at 10am against Stetson at the Naimoli Tennis Center.
