Jared Kacso registered his first win of the season and
Johnny Malatesta notched his second save on the year, in the Highlanders 5-2 victory at Maryland Eastern Shore Sunday afternoon at Arthur Perdue Stadium.
NJIT, winners of the last six-out-of-seven games, moves above .500 (6-5), after sweeping the weekend series from the Hawks. UMES drops to 1-13 on the season. The four consecutive wins are the most since 2016 when the Highlanders won four straight from March 29 - April 5.
Kacso, the Highlanders sophomore righty, improved to 1-2, pitching 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four Hawks. NJIT's third pitcher Malatesta, pitched the eighth and ninth, pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit for his second save on the year.

Evan Pietronico finished 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs, including a double while 1B
Julio Marcano went 2-for-4. Five different Highlanders posted a hit in the victory as the Highlanders pounded out 10 hits.
NJIT continued its momentum moving into game four, tacking on three runs in the top of the second for a 3-0 lead. DH

Paul Franzoni were credited with an RBI with a sacrifice fly in the inning, pushing the Highlander lead to 3-0.
Maryland Eastern Shore got on the board in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs on two hits, pulling within one of the Highlanders, 3-2. Tyler Friis drove in a pair of runs for the Hawks, with a double down the right field line.
NJIT added to its win total in the top of the ninth, scoring two runs, extending the Highlander lead to 5-2.
Julio Marcano started off the inning with a single to the pitcher and advanced to third on a single through the right side by Pietronico. Pietronico stole second as the Hawks intentionally walked Brady, loading the bases for Anastasia who walked, scoring Pietronico. A single by SS
Justin Etts through the left side score scored Pietronico, which gave the Highlanders a 5-2 advantage.
NJIT will return to action on Tuesday at 3:30 when the Highlanders visit Coppin State.
