In the third NJIT piled on some more runs with a two-run double by Julio Marcano, to make it 5-3 in favor of Coppin State.

With bases loaded in the fourth, Jesse Uttendorfer earned a walk to score teammate Bryce Short and putting the Highlanders within one, 5-4.

The run gates broke open for NJIT in the sixth, who scored four runs to take an 8-5 lead. David Marcano gave NJIT a 6-5 lead with a two-run double scoring Justin Etts and Michael Anastasia. Two batters later Matthew Cocciadiferro singled to center field to bring in David, and Julio Marcano doubled to left field to score Cocciadiferro, giving NJIT an 8-5 lead.

Coppin State added two more runs in the seventh, but the Highlander pitcher Johnny Malatesta shut them down in the ninth posting his third save of the season.
