STATEN ISLAND, NY – NJIT men's and women's track and field participated in the METS Indoor Championships at the Ocean Breeze Complex hosted by Manhattan on Thursday and Friday.
The Highlander men placed sixth earning 56 points while the women came in 13
th with 14 points.
The men earned 14 points for themselves in the 60m dash finals. Newcomer
Kwaku Amponsah tied for first with Kevon White from Stony Brook, both runners clocked in at 7.01.
Daniel Leung placed fourth finishing in 7.10 while
Emmanuel Agyen took eighth coming in at 7.28.
In the distance races,
Ryan Budhu took fifth place in the 500m dash running in 1:06.10 and
Blake Brancato placed seventh with a time of 15:32.16.
Isa Feknous tied for seventh in the high jump earning a distance of 1.89m.
In the men's pole vault,
Calvin Gould finished tied for fourth getting 4.40m while teammate
Brandon Kong came in eighth with a 4.25m.
Amponsah added another three points to his day, placing sixth with a long jump score of 6.59m.
Kyle Russell,
Sidharth Vemuri and
Connor Penrod finished 2-3-4 in the men's heptathlon compiling 19 points for the Highlanders.
On the women's side, newcomer
Sydne Nance finished sixth overall in the 400m dash clocking in at 59.28.
In the 5000m run
Cassandra Raia grabbed eighth place coming in at 19:14.59.
In the high jump Nance and
Miku Okada finished 5-6 with both getting identical marks of 1.55m.
Freshman Okada added a seventh place finish to her day getting a 2.60m in the women's pole vault.
In the women's indoor pentathlon
Esther Daramola came in tenth earning 2317 points.
Next the Highlanders gear up for the ASUN Conference indoor championships taking place on February 17-18 and hosted by Liberty.
