NJIT women's basketball begins a three-game homestand Saturday at 1pm, hosting Jacksonville in the Wellness and Events Center.

The game will be part of a doubleheader with the NJIT men, which tips off at 4pm vs. the Dolphins from Jacksonville.

The Highlanders (2-16, 0-3 ASUN) are coming off a 73-55 loss at Stetson on Monday afternoon. 

With a win on Saturday, the Highlanders will snap a five-game losing streak, which dates back to a 73-57 victory over Long Beach State on December 28 in the NJIT Basketball Holiday Tournament.

Starting in January, every NJIT game played in the ASUN Conference, home and away, throughout the regular season and into the ASUN postseason tournament will be covered on ESPN3.

All-Time Series
Jacksonville leads the all-time series, 4-0.  In the last meeting, Jacksonville topped the Highlanders, 75-59, on February 11, 2017.

The Highlanders were paced by Kelly Guarino's team-best 14 points, including four three-pointers from downtown.  NJIT's Tatianna Torres filled up the box score with 12 points, five assists, four assists, including 8-for-11 from the free throw line.

Jacksonville's Sherranda Reddick led all scorers with 19 points, including a 4-for-9 performance from behind the arc followed by Kayla Mercer and Christin Mercer, who each added 15 points.  Shalonda Neely came off the bench for the Dolphins and scored 10 points.

Scouting the Dolphins (13-5, 3-0 ASUN)
Jacksonville enters Saturday contest on a four-game win streak and winners of its last nine-out-of-10 games, most recently an 84-49 win over Kennesaw State.

Four players scored in double-figures, led by Kayla Gordon and Brandi Buie, who combined for 18 of Jacksonville's 26 points, as the pair finished the day with 16 and 12 points, respectively.

Jasmyn Brown (12 points) and Alexis Burns (13 points) also added double figures for the Dolphins, while Naqaiyyah Teague controlled the boards with a game-high nine rebounds – just one shy of her career high.

The Dolphins have three players averaging double-figures led by Brown (13.3ppg), Buie (12.0ppg) and Gordon (10.7ppg).  Brown also paces the Dolphins in three-point field goals made (37) and steals (29).

Gordon tops the team in rebounding at 8.5rpg, which ranks second in the ASUN while Buie has dished out a team-best 55 assists.

Last season, the Dolphins finished 23-9 overall, 11-3 in the ASUN, falling in the finals of the ASUN Conference Tournament to FGCU (68-64).  Jacksonville made its first-ever appearance in the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) against Georgia Tech.  The 23-wins ties the program's single-season win mark.

Scouting the Highlanders (2-16, 0-3 ASUN)
The Highlanders (2-16, 0-3 ASUN) are coming off a 73-55 loss at Stetson on Monday afternoon.  NJIT was led by senior forward Taj Lewis, who scored 15 points off the bench for NJIT.  Lewis finished 7-for-14 from the field and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. 

In the last six games, Lewis is averaging 7.8ppg and is shooting 58.1 percent from the field (18-for-31).  Lewis leads the ASUN in field goal percentage at 52.6 percent (72-137).

Torres leads the team averaging 11.1 ppg and total steals (33).  She has recorded at least one steal in 17-out-of-18 games this season (high of 4 vs. Cornell) and ranks fourth in the ASUN at 1.9spg.

Freshman Ellyn Stoll is averaging 9.3 ppg and paces the team with 33 three-point field goals made.  Guarino is averaging 9.3 ppg, through nine games, including two starts.

Tunstall tops the team on the boards, averaging 6.1rpg.
