2017 ASUN Volleyball Preseason Honors and Awards

LAKEPOINT, GA—The NJIT women's volleyball team has been selected to finish in eighth place in the ASUN after the league announced its 2017 Preseason Coaches' Poll and All-Conference teams Monday afternoon.

The Highlanders combined for 12 points, just below Stetson, who totaled 14 points.

NJIT, which nearly doubled their wins output from the 2015 season when the Highlanders went 6-25, finished the 2016 season with 11 wins.

Lipscomb was chosen as the preseason favorite to win the league with 60 points and five first place votes.  The Bisons advanced to the first round of the 2016 NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament, concluding its season 22-8, 12-2 in the conference.

FGCU was selected second, combining for 55 points and two first place votes while Kennesaw State finished third with 53 points and one first place vote.  The Eagles, who advanced to the ASUN Championship, finished 2016 with a 27-6 overall record, 11-3 mark in the ASUN while Kennesaw State combined for an 18-win season.

North Florida placed fourth (39 points) followed by Jacksonville (29 points) and USC Upstate (26).

The first date of competition is scheduled for August 25-26 at the Bucknell Tournament in Lewisburg, PA.  NJIT will face Iona on Friday at 4pm.  On Saturday, NJIT will take Saint Peter's at 12pm and La Salle at 5:30pm to wrap up the tournament.
