2017 Women's Volleyball Schedule
NEWARK, NJ— Head coach
Peter Volkert announced the upcoming 2017 women's volleyball schedule, which includes 31 matches overall, with 11 home dates at the Fleisher Athletic Center and 14 contests as part of the ASUN Conference.
The Highlanders, who report to preseason camp on August 7, will start the 2017 season playing its first 12 matches on the road. The first date of competition is scheduled for August 25-26 at the Bucknell Tournament in Lewisburg, PA. NJIT will face Iona on Friday at 4pm. On Saturday, NJIT will take Saint Peter's at 12pm and La Salle at 5:30pm to wrap up the tournament.
NJIT will open up the month of September, competing at the Terrier Classic hosted by St. Francis Brooklyn. NJIT will first face Maryland-Eastern Shore on Friday at 10am and square off against host St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday morning at 9am and close out the tournament against UMass Lowell at 2pm.
The third tournament of the season for the Highlanders will be the Hartford Invitational on September 8-9. NJIT will take on the Hawks on Friday at 7pm and play Central Connecticut State (10am) and Niagara (2:30pm) on Saturday. Last season, CCSU notched a 14-win season while the Purple Eagles won 12.
The Highlanders will travel to Manhattan on September 13 at 7pm before concluding its stretch of matches on the road at the Lafayette Tournament on September 15-16. NJIT will face the Leopards on Friday night at 7pm and Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday at 10am.
The home portion of the Highlanders' schedule will begin on September 19, welcoming Fairleigh Dickinson at 7pm.
ASUN Conference action will begin on September 23, hosting the visiting Spartans from USC Upstate at 1pm. The next day, NJIT will take on Iona at 1pm.
NJIT will go out of conference and travel to nearby Saint Peter's on September 27, for a 7pm start.
The Highlanders will close out the month of September, hosting North Florida, an 18-win team last season on September 29 at 7pm. NJIT wraps up the regular season at the Ospreys in Jacksonville on November 11 at 5pm.
The month of October features the Highlanders, welcoming Jacksonville at 1pm. The Highlanders will visit the Dolphins on November 10 at 6pm.
NJIT will make its first ASUN road trip of the season on October 6-7, first visiting Stetson at 1pm and a day later at FGCU, slated for a 6pm spike. The Eagles, who advanced to the ASUN Championship, finished 2016 with a 27-6 overall record, 11-3 mark in the ASUN. NJIT will welcome the Eagles to Newark on November 3 at 7pm and close out the home portion of its schedule, hosting Stetson on Senior Day on November 5 at 1pm.
On October 10, NJIT will host non-conference opponent Delaware State at 7pm before playing its next three matches on the road.
NJIT will travel to Nashville and visit 2016 ASUN regular season and tournament champions Lipscomb on October 13 at 6:30pm (CT). The Bisons advanced to the first round of the 2016 NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament, concluding its season 22-8, 12-2 in the conference. The next day, NJIT will take on Kennesaw State, an 18-win team from a year ago at 7pm. NJIT will host Kennesaw State on October 27 at 7pm and two days later Lipscomb at 1pm in Newark, NJ.
The non-conference portion of the Highlanders schedule concludes on October 24, when the Highlanders host Saint Peter's at 7pm.
The top six teams in the league will compete for the ASUN Championship and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The tournament will be played in Nashville for the third season in a row at Lipscomb from November 16-18.
