NEWARK, NJ--Jackie Granger, a three-time AVCA All-American Honorable Mention and AVCA All-Northeast Region selection, has joined the NJIT women's volleyball coaching staff as a full-time assistant coach, head coach
Peter Volkert announced.
One of the best volleyball players to come out of New York, the 6-foot-1 outside hitter from Stony Brook, NY, first gained notice in high school as a key player for North Rockland High School, guiding North Rockland to a State Championship in 2000 and three straight league championships.
At North Rockland High School, Granger, who was named the #1 Player in the State for Class A Volleyball, was a two-time
Rockland Journal News Player of the Year as a junior and senior. Granger also earned All-State, All-County and All-League recognition.
"Jackie was one of the best players to play in the Tri-State and kept her passion going by getting into coaching right after college," head coach
Peter Volkert added. "I'm excited about her bringing her passion for the game and coaching experience to NJIT."
A 2006 graduate from St. John's with a bachelor's in Communications, Granger became one of the most decorated players in Red Storm history.
In her first season, she combined for one of the best single-season's all-time by a Red Storm hitter, earning all-BIG EAST honorable mention, leading the team in kills (512), attempts (1,127), hitting percentage (.265) while finishing second with (73) total blocks and (32) service aces.
An immediate fixture in the starting lineup for the Red Storm, Granger earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American Honorable Mention in 2003, becoming the first player in St. John's history to receive the honor, including AVCA All-Northeast Region and All-BIG EAST first-team recognition. She set the BIG EAST Conference and St. John's single-season record for kills in a season with 608, which ranked 23
rd in the nation.
Granger, who played her fifth-year at Stony Brook, received her master's in Professional Studies in 2007, where she was selected America East Player of the Year, leading the Seawolves to 24 wins and the America East Conference regular season title. She finished first in the America East with 5.08 kills per game, which also ranked 14
th in the nation.
"My desire to coach at the Division I level began in 2002 when I walked into my first pre-season practice as a Division I student-athlete," Granger commented. "The experience I had on and off the court is what molded me into the woman I am today. Becoming a part of the Highlander Family and coaching at this level not only allows me to fulfill one of my dreams but also allows me to pass along some of these opportunities to these young ladies. I am very excited to begin working with the girls and making our presence known in the ASUN conference. I can't wait to see what the future of the program has in store."Â
Prior to her arrival at NJIT, Granger was the head volleyball coach at The Masters School (2014 to 2017), in Dobbs Ferry, NY, for both Boys & Girls varsity and middle school teams. Â She also coached club for the Downstate Juniors Volleyball Club in Peekskill, New York.
Granger's first college coaching position was as an assistant coach for Dominican College in 2014. The Chargers reached 16 wins and advanced to the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference (CACC) quarterfinals.
