Justin Etts recorded his third home run of the season in the Highlanders 4-0 win at NYIT in game one while NYIT pinch hitter Ryan Kuskowski delivered a walk-off single in extra innings in the nightcap, in the Bears, 4-3, win in game two of the doubleheader Saturday.
NJIT moves to 6-35 overall while the Bears snapped a 16-game losing streak, moving to 4-35-1. The two teams will return to action on Sunday at Riverfront Stadium in Newark. First pitch set for 12pm (DH).
In game one, Sondergard, the Highlanders crafty left-hander, notched his first career shutout and first win of the season, pitching a seven-inning complete game, surrendering four hits while striking out seven Bears.
In game two, pinch hitter Ryan Kuskowski's RBI single up the middle with two outs drove in the game-winning run. Anthony Caradonna led the eleventh inning with a double to right field.

Freshman DJ Masuck (1-1) tossed four scoreless relief innings to earn the win for the Bears.
NYIT had two players with multi-hits, paced by Fusco and Mele, who each finished 2-for-5. Mele, the Bears third baseman drove in two runs for the home team, including a two-run home run in the bottom of the third.
NJIT's
Brent Jones (1-2) took the loss, pitching the final 2.2 innings, allowing two hits and allowing one run.

Rex MacMillan each drove in a run of the Highlanders.
Etts drove in the first run of the second game with a sacrifice fly to left field as the Highlanders jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
The home team answered in the home portion of the first inning, plating a single run on a fielder's choice by Caradonna, for a 1-1 tie.
The Highlanders regained the lead in the top of the first, 2-1, on an RBI groundout to shortstop by 3B

NJIT got on the board in the bottom of the second on a solo home run by Etts, his third of the season, to left field, taking a 1-0 advantage.
The visitors added a pair of runs in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by DH
Evan Pietronico and scored its second run of the inning on an NYIT throwing error, extending the Highlander lead, 4-0.
