SPARTANBURG, SC—
The NJIT men's tennis team (7-14, 1-5 ASUN) concluded its 2017 season, dropping a 6-1 decision at USC Upstate (6-15, 2-4 ASUN), Saturday afternoon.

"A hard fought match but unfortunately it did not go our way," head coach Ira Miller commented.  "Several strides forward this year. With everyone returning next year we have a lot to build on."

NJIT received a strong performance by duo Zac Castagna and Lukas Zvikas, who defeated USC Upstate's Ankush Arora and Francisco Neto, 6-4, at third doubles.  USC Upstate, however, went on to take the doubles point.

In the singles competition, Castagna continued his fine play on the afternoon, securing the only point for the Highlanders, defeating Fernando Bernardes at fourth singles, in straight sets, 7-6 (4), 6-4.

Junior Richard Rangga fought hard at fifth singles, but ultimately fell to USC Upstate's Ignacio Garrido, in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 11-9.

Highlander freshman Aleksa Petrovic fell in straight sets at first singles to USC Upstate's Felix Ewers 7-6 (2), 6-1.
