Women’s Tennis Earns 6-1 ASUN Conference Win Over Lipscomb

NEWARK, NJ—
The NJIT women's tennis team (4-7, 1-0 ASUN) earned its first ASUN Conference victory of the season, defeating, visiting, Lipscomb (4-13, 0-1 ASUN) 6-1, Thursday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.

The Highlanders won the doubles point with wins at second and third doubles and recorded five-out-of-six singles contests, notching the 6-1 victory.

NJIT's Nathalie Habegger and Alba Rosas Garcia earned a doubles victory at the second spot, defeating Lipscomb's Hannah Gamage and Madeleine Brooks, 6-1.

The Highlanders would go on to take the doubles point, as Natacha Minc and Amanda Helminsky defeated Thabile Tshatedi and Jaclyn Findlay of Lipscomb, 6-0, at third doubles.

In singles, Minc continued her strong play, posting a straight-set victory, topping, Gamage, 6-2, 6-1 at third singles.

After initially dropping the first set, Habegger rallied back to defeat Lipscomb's Denise Buberl, 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 at fourth singles.

Highlander Rosas Garcia also earned a straight-set victory, defeating Lipscomb's Thabile Tshatedi by identical scores, 6-2, 6-2 in the five spot.

At sixth singles, NJIT's Helminsky won 8-3, topping, Lipscomb's Jaclyn Findlay. 

"We came out pumped for the doubles and grabbed the momentum with decisive victories at 2 and 3 doubles," commented head coach Ira Miller following the victory. "The ladies fought hard in every match and played the big points well and closed out nicely. Great team victory. Great way to start off our conference schedule."

NJIT will look for its second ASUN conference victory on Saturday, March 25, when the Highlanders welcome Kennesaw State to the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.  The match will begin at 10am.
