TEANECK, NJ – The NJIT women's fencing team posted two wins at the FDU Invitational on Saturday.
The Highlanders earned wins over Wagner (25-2) and Hunter (18-9) but fell to Stevens (8-19), Drew (13-14), Temple (6-21) and host FDU (9-18).
The foil squad consisting of
Jule Shigihara,
Cristina Garcia Mendicino and
Julia Garcia tallied a 41-13 overall record, defeating every team except for Temple.
Junior Shigihara posted a 15-3 record, going undefeated against Stevens, Wagner, Drew and Hunter.
New teammate and sophomore Garcia Mendicino notched a 13-5 overall record and lost only to Temple and Stevens.
Junior Garcia went 13-5 as well, with 3-0 wins over Wagner and Drew.
Maria Sztan represented the epee squad, falling to only one opponent from Stevens and a 12-1 overall mark.
The NJIT men compete at the MACFA B Round Robin at Stevens tomorrow starting at 10am, while the women take a break until the 19 when they host the NJIT Invitational held in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
