BETHLEHEM, PA – In his last NCAA Regional race
Blake Brancato broke the NJIT course record at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals on Friday morning.
The men's and women's cross country teams both compete, with the men placing 24
th and the women 28
th.
Senior Brancato broke the Lehigh course record by a Highlander runner, coming in 40 seconds faster than former runner Daniel Rondon.
Brancato's time of 31:41 was also the first time an NJIT athlete ran a 10k race under 32 minutes.
The top four Highlander men, Brancato,
Tomas Gonzalez,
Gerard Gill and
Ryan Budhu were faster than the top finishers from last year.
On the women's side,
Cassandra Raia was the top Highlander performer running the women's 6k in 24:10.09.
Freshman Raia,
Roshni Patel (24:24.6) and
Kelly DiCristina (24:44.3), all finished the race faster than women's cross country's top performer from last year.
The Highlanders last meet of 2017 will take place on November 18 at the ECAC/IC4A Championships held at Van Cortlandt Park.
