NEWARK, NJ – In NJIT's first game of 2017, the Highlanders were defeated by the Ramapo 2-1 at the Barnabas Health Hockey House.
The Roadrunners sweep the season set 2-0 over NJIT, who finish with a 5-3 record against non-conference opponents.
Ramapo scored two early goals with the first five minutes of the opening period for 2-0 lead.
David Ferrero scored a power play goal mid-way through the first period to cut the lead to 2-1.
The second period was quiet, with neither team notching a goal.
In the third period, the Highlanders made a big push to tie the game, with a two-man advantage on the power play, but were unable to tie it. Tremendous goaltending on the other end stymied all the great scoring chances NJIT had in the period.
Thomas Pyrka made 22 saves and
Martin Paro made 15 saves in relief.
The Highlanders are on the road next weekend, January 28 against Millersville and January 29 against West Chester. NJIT's next home game will be February 3 against Seton Hall.
