NJIT Men Place Third; Women Sixth at Rider Invitational

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—
The NJIT men placed third out of 15 teams and the NJIT women were sixth of 14 teams at the Rider Invitational Sunday afternoon.

Senior John Porteous placed second in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.40, earning eight points for the Highlander men.

Freshman pole vaulter Calvin Gould took third with a mark of 4.10m, good for eight points.

Highlanders Vishaldeep Singh and Kwadwo Banahene finished second and third in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.85m and 6.76m, respectively.

Junior Joe Skwiat and Banahene took third and fourth in the men's triple jump with a distance of 13.93m and 13.88m.

In the javelin throw, Frankie Primerano hit a seaon best mark of 49.24m, placing fifth.  Primerano is currently ranked third in the men's javelin in the Atlantic Sun Conference.  David Singer posted a season best with a 46.87m mark, finishing seventh and ranks fourth in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Sophomore Alex Ortega finished seventh in the men's 400 meters with a time of 50.31.

Freshman hurdler Dhruv Banerjee took sixth in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 15.69, followed by junior Jason Poppe at 16.67.

In the men's 100 meters, junior Emmanuel Agyen was the top finisher for NJIT, placing eighth with a time of 11.69.

Freshman Patrick Quinn, placed in the top 8 in the men's shot put with a distance of 12.41m and 11th in the men's discus throw at 33.02m.

Senior Timothy Daudelin finished in the top 9 of the men's 800-meter run, crossing the finish line at 2:00.20.

Sophomore Mary Henshaw won the women's pole vault with a mark of 2.75m.

Kayleigh Stark took third with a mark of 31.94m in the women's javelin, posting back-to-back weeks she finished top 5 in the javelin.

Freshman Shannon Turner placed eighth in the women's shot put with a distance of 10.21m.

Freshman Kiersten Chesonis broke the NJIT women's freshman and varsity record in the women's discus with a toss of 31.58m, placing fifth.

Sophomore Trish Roche took ninth in the women's 400 meter hurdles at 1:15.74.

Junior Kelli Hesse placed 12th in the women's 1500-meter run with a time of 5:07.26.

The Highlanders will return to action on April 23 at the East Stroudsburg Invitational at 10am.
