Box ScoreORLANDO, FL—The NJIT women's tennis team dropped its second consecutive 5-2 decision Friday against UAlbany on Day Two of the Highlanders' Spring Break trip.
UAlbany (6-5) swept the doubles contests and recorded four-of-six singles contests to earn the 5-2 victory.
The Highlanders (4-9) picked up two wins at first and second singles from freshman
Rafaella Sampaio and junior
Nathalie Habegger.
"The team played well, particularly Nathalie (Habegger) and Rafaella (Sampaio)," head coach
Ira Miller commented. "Rafaella won both her matches this week against the best player on the other team."
Sampaio, from Sao Paulo, Brazil, dropped the first set 6-2, against UAlbany's Paulina Torres. The freshman won the next two frames by identical 6-2 scores for the victory.
Habegger, from Gland, Switzerland, took the first frame, 7-5, against Dajana Ognjenovic. Ognjenovic won the second set, 6-3, but NJIT's Habegger took the final frame, 12-10, to earn the victory.
NJIT will open Atlantic Sun Conference play on March 24, hosting North Florida at 2pm in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
