Presbyterian Edges NJIT, 4-3

CLINTON, SC—The NJIT women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Presbyterian on Thursday afternoon at the Templeton Center Tennis Courts in Big South Women's Tennis action.

The decisive point came at No. 5, where Sofia Rodrigo Hidalgo outlasted Diana Fernandes in a three-set battle, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.

NJIT opened strong by claiming the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. The duo of Irene Cocero and Laura Wipfli delivered a dominant 6-0 victory at the top spot, while Lusia Hepcal Barcan and Petra Koszo followed with a 6-3 win at No. 3 to secure the early 1-0 advantage.

In singles play, Laura Wipfli extended the Highlanders' lead with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win over Ladina Bruhin at No. 1. NJIT also picked up a point at No. 6, where Hepcal Barcan defeated Mary Ellen Longmire, 6-2, 6-4.

Presbyterian responded by winning four singles matches, including three in three-set battles, to complete the comeback. Roxana Valdes earned a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Paula Menendez Alvarez at No. 2, while Luciana Parrilli rallied past Asima Sazan, 0-6, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3. Grace Katzman added a straight-sets win at No. 4, defeating Petra Koszo, 6-2, 6-1.
