WINSTON-SALEM, NC—The NJIT men's and women's track and field teams opened Day One of competition Friday at the 2016 Atlantic Sun Conference Indoor Championships at the JDL Fast Track Facility.
Senior
John Porteous placed in the top five of the men's long jump with a distance of 21-04.0,0 followed by teammates
Vishaldeep Singh (20-08.00) and
Kwadwo Banahene (20-05.00).
In the prelims of the men's 60 meter hurdles, Porteous was the only qualifier for NJIT with a time of 8.50.

Jason Chippy qualified for the finals in the men's 60-meter dash, placing fifth (7.08) and seventh (7.11) respectively.
In the men's pole vault, freshman
Calvin Gould tied for fifth with a height of 14-01.75.
Freshman
Patrick Quinn finished in the top five in the men's shot put with a distance of 41-08.50 while teammate
Sawyer Gara placed seventh with a distance of 38-00.75.
On the women's side, senior
Alison Schroeder took fifth in the women's shot put with a distance of 33-10 while finishing tied for eighth in the women's high jump with a height of 4-08.75 and tenth in the women's long jump with a distance of 14-10.
Competition at the Atlantic Sun Indoors concludes with a final day of events on Saturday.
