MONSEY, NY—On the strength of Matthew Lepinski's first career hat trick, the NJIT club ice hockey team opened the 2015 season with their second straight win, 5-2, defeating Ramapo College, who were hosting NJIT for their first hockey game in 31 years.
Playing in front of a large home crowd, the Roadrunners kept the pressure on and led by a score of 2-1 after two periods, but goaltenders Andrew Irizarry and Thomas Pyrka shut the door after two early goals to give the Highlanders a chance to come back.
Thomas Mudry added an insurance goal to give NJIT a two-goal lead and David Ferrero added an empty net goal to seal the deal.
