NEWARK, NJ – NJIT Men's soccer
Joshua Mercer has been named Male Athlete of the week for his performance through September 14.
The senior scored two goals in the Highlanders 3-2 comeback win over Niagara September 11.
Mercer scored NJIT's first goal of the night in the 75
th minute when he received a pass from teammate
Rickardo Oldham from outside the box and was able to put the ball away from 10 yards out. The game-winning goal came in the 93
rd minute when Mercer got a shot off inside the box that was blocked by a Niagara defender which the goalkeeper couldn't handle. Mercer followed his shot and was able to head the loose ball into the net for the win.
Mercer is tied for the lead in points (5) and goals (2) for the Highlanders.
