NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT women's fencing team will have seven fencers representing NJIT in the 2015 Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Fencing Championships to be hosted by Duke University in Durham, NC on Saturday, March 7.
The NJIT women will have three fencers in the foil event—freshman
Jule Shigihara, sophomore
Alessandra Rodrigues and junior
Michelle Potestio.
Shigihara, from Bonn, Germany, who is seeded 15
th, is coming off an 11-4 performance at the 2015 Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational, sweeping Brandeis, Johns Hopkins and host FDU.
NJIT senior
Julia Aronov, junior
Rebecca Richmond and freshman
Julia Garcia will represent NJIT in epee competition.
Garica, from Madrid, Spain, who is ranked #1 in Junior women's epee in Spain and in Junior Spanish rankings, is seeded 12
th.
Aronov, from Forest Hills, NY, led the epee squad at the regionals in 2014 advancing to the third round before being eliminated.
Richmond, from Linwood, NJ, placed 31
st last season at the championships.
First-year fencer
Kaelyn Gamel, who is a member of the NJIT women's soccer team, will make her first regional appearance, representing the Highlanders in the sabre competition.
