Team Note: NJIT finishes 2013 at 8-10-1 while notching 6 shutouts, also a new program high in the Division I era, which began in 2006. The previous Division I high for wins was 7 when the Highlanders were 7-9-2 in 2009.This year's team also matched the overall program record for wins. Started as a Division III program in 1996, NJIT played in Division II from 1997 to 2005, posting an 8-6-3 mark the final season in Division II.

Prior to NJIT: A resident of Hamburg, NY, south of Buffalo, Gamel was a two-year captain and 2011 all-Western New York honoree at Hamburg High School, where she was on the varsity eighth grade on. Playing club soccer for Empire United, based in Syracuse, more than 150 miles from her home, she was on the 2010 Club National Champion and 2011 fourth-place finisher in the USYSA National League. Playing ODP (Olympic Development Program), she was in the Western New York player pool from 2006 to 2011 and the tournament team from 2007 to 2011, finishing as a regional runner-up in 2010.
