NEWARK, NJ--The NJIT men's club ice hockey team, playing their third game in as many nights, avenged an early season loss to Monmouth in a 10-6 wild game that was amazing to witness at the Prudential Center.
Hampered by injuries as
Domenico Crincoli and Tom Mudry joined previously injured
David Ferrero on the sidelines NJIT was running out of  players and energy.Â
Monmouth had the first burst of momentum jumping out to a one goal lead as the Highlanders stood around and watched. Before the period ended NJIT had found their confidence and took control of the game thanks to two goals by
Alexander Fleischmann.Â
Monmouth opened the scoring and
Matthew Lepinski answered to restore the lead, but once again NJIT failed to hold the lead in the second period as sloppy undisciplined play led to three more goals for Monmouth.
Â
The teams traded goals to open the period and Monmouth added another to take a 7-4 lead.
Things looked bleak until
Corrado Mancini score the first of his three straight goals, a natural hat-trick, to tie the game. The momentum was back and even a new goalie couldn't stem the tide as Lepinski scored for his first multiple goal game of his career and Fleischmann capped it off with two more goals for his three four-goal game in two years at NJIT.Â
The victory was the first for goaltender Andrew Irizarry who recently joined the team.
