WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ - Monmouth had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way to a 9-5 win over NJIT.
Monmouth University got the win on the strength of a great game by Kyle Blazier and Ryan ORourke who each had two goals and two assists. Monmouth also got points from Nicholas Tarquini, and Christopher Zariello who each had a goal and two assists. Steven Loreti, and Allen Zak, finished with one goal and one assist respectively. Other scorers for Monmouth included William Parsons and Brian Aji. In addition, Monmouth received two assists from Eric Luetters, and Michael Frade, Jordan Shelepak, and Anthony DeFede, who contributed one each.
NJIT forced Monmouth netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, racking up 48 shots and forcing 43 saves. Stephen Bonora made 18 stops and Andrew Terracciano made 25. NJIT stifled Monmouth's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. In net for the Highlanders,
Andrew Irizarry made 37 stops and
Thomas Pyrka made 15 while facing a combined total of 61 shots.
Michael Barrera scored first for the Highlanders as they got out to a short-lived lead. Other scorers for NJIT were
David Ferrero, who had two and
Thomas Mudry and
Christopher Murphy, who scored one goal each. Also contributing assists were
Matthew Lepinski,
Yllano Tubilleja, and Richard Labarbiera.
