NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT track and field teams co-hosted the 2014 Brick City Classic with Essex County College at Newark School Stadium Sunday.
Junior sprinter
John Porteous won the men's 200 meters with a time of 21.63.
Freshman
Kwadwo Banahene captured the men's long jump and triple jump with a distance of 6.02m in the long and 12.93m in the triple.
Highlanders
Jason Poppe and
Lucas Lamb went 2-3 in the men's high jump with Poppe earning second with a height of 6-2 and Lamb third at 5-6. Poppe also placed second in the men's 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.83 and Lamb fourth with a 19.37 mark.
Middle distance runner
Moheb Thomas was the top finisher for NJIT in the men's 800 meter run taking third with a time of 2:01.99.
Sprinter
Emmanuel Agyen and
James Meyers finished 2-3 in the men's 100 meter dash while
Zakaria Fouad earned a first-place finish in the men's 1500 meter run with a time of 4:07.57.
The Highlander men went 3-4-5 in the men's hammer throw with a top throw coming from
Raj Das, placing third with a distance of 28.06m, followed by
Trentino Pezzano (26.95m) and
Josh Ugwuneri (23.51m).
Das placed in the top four of the men's javelin with a distance of 41.19m followed by teammate
Patrick Gavin with a throw of 41.12. In the men's shot put, Ugwuneri took fourth and Pezzano fifth with a distance of 11.21m and 10.85m respectively.
NJIT's
Kelsey Jackson earned a second-place finish in the women's high jump at 5-2 while teammate
Alison Schroeder took fourth with a mark at 4-6. Jackson took fourth in the women's 100 meter dash with a time of 12.84.
In the women's shot put,
Gabi Whalen earned a second-place finish with a distance of 10.11m and followed up with a fourth place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 27.80m.
Freshman
Cristina De Cristofaro took second in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.12m followed by teammate
Esther Alfaro with a 5.02m mark. De Cristofaro placed second in the women's 200 meters with a time of 27.51 and Alfaro was the winner of the women's 400 meter hurdles with a mark of 1:10.50.
NJIT's
Kelli Hesse and
Alexis Caufield finished in the top 5 of the women's 400 meters while teammate
Alexandra Arnold placed fifth in the women's 800 meter run.
