John Porteous ranks in the top 6 in the men's 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meter hurdles in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Division I report released on April 14.
Porteous, a junior from Wood-Ridge, NJ, becomes the first NJIT track and field athlete to be ranked by the USTFCCA in three different categories.
The 5-foot-11 sprinter, ranks fourth in the men's 200 meters (21.05), fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (53.18) and sixth in the 100 meters (10.68).
All three of Porteous' times are school-records set at two different Invitationals this season. The 100 meter and 400 meter hurdle times were set at the 49er Classic hosted by UNC-Charlotte on March 22 and the 200 meter time was set at the Roadrunner Invitational on April 4, marking a new meet record.
This past weekend at the Rider Invitational, Porteous captured the 400 meter title setting a new record at NJIT with a time of (47.45) and was a member of the record breaking 4x100 relay team (41.56), which placed first. Both times were just off the top 8 marks in the region.
The NJIT men's track and field squad, which competes in the Mid-Atlantic Region, is currently ranked 14
th for the first time in program history (first Division I season 2006-07).
