NJIT Club Rugby Triumphs Over Vassar

NJIT Club Rugby Triumphs Over Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY—With most of the spring season behind, the NJIT men's club rugby team faced their toughest challenge yet at Vassar.

As one of the top teams in Division II rugby, Vassar would be the best test of the NJIT club rugby teams' readiness for Division II rugby in the fall. Being the new team in the division, NJIT has nothing to lose and everything to gain. With a reputation already forming around the other teams, this was the team's chance to prove itself.

True to their reputation and style of play, the NJIT men immediately started off by putting pressure on the Vassar defense, scoring the first try of the game within the first five minutes.

In terms of scrums, NJIT was clearly the better of the two teams, winning almost every one and pushing the opposition back at least 10 yards each time.

Vassar tried their best to put some points on the board, and managed it with a few tries. However, they were unable to stop the onslaught of the offence.

In the end, the Highlanders came out on top, beating Vassar 29 – 16.

NJIT rugby looks forward to future success and will await for a rematch with Vassar in the upcoming fall season.
