NJIT Beats Hofstra in Spring Opener

HEMPSTEAD, NY - The spring season in rugby is a time for players to get reaccustomed to the rigors of rugby after a long winter break as well as a chance for the coaches to decide which players they will start in the all important fall season.

A series of friendly matches are played against teams both from inside and inside the team's division and conference. This is especially crucial for the NJIT rugby team with their transition from division III to division II.

The NJIT A side got to a really great start in the first game of the spring season on March 15th, against the Hofstra men's A side, winning 29-18. Three tries were scored, two by inside center Trevor Panciello and one by flanker Dylan Ramistella. The team also gained 12 points on penalty kicks made by flyhalf Fraser Croad.

After the A side played their game, it was the B side's turn. The NJIT rugby B side also came out with a win, beating the Hofstra men's B side 5-0. The single try in the game was scored by wing Nicholas Bernal, adding to the NJIT sweep at Hofstra. The team is off to a very good start in their spring season and look to more victories in the future.
