Seton Hall Edges Highlanders, 4-3

NEWARK, NJThe NJIT women's tennis team dropped its second consecutive 4-3 decision to visiting Seton Hall Saturday afternoon at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
 
The Highlanders (2-3) were edged by Fordham, 4-3, on February 8, with the deciding point coming down to sixth singles.  NJIT swept the doubles points from Seton Hall but the visiting Pirates won four out of six singles contests for a 4-3 victory.  Seton Hall improves to 2-2 on the season.
 
NJIT Brazilian natives Carolina Zanotta and Natalia Melibeu started off the doubles competition with an 8-4 victory at second doubles defeating Seton Hall's Hannah Liljekvist and Julia Keenan.
 
Highlander pair Hannelore MacDonald and Nathalie Habegger were 8-5 winners at third doubles topping Madison Shoemaker and Julie Martiny.
 
NJIT swept the doubles competition with a 8-7(5) victory at first doubles as Ksenia Kuzmenko and Jana Luste defeated Pirates duo Chloe Sher and Rocio Portela.
 
Seton Hall's Hannah Liljekvist tied the match at 1-1 with a straight set victory at second singles over NJIT's Melibeu, 6-1, 6-2.
 
The Pirates held a 2-1 advantage as Portela downed Luste, 6-2, 7-5, at second singles.
 
NJIT evened the match at 2-2 with a straight set victory by Habegger at the fourth spot, 6-2, 7-6(2) past Seton Hall's Keenan.
 
The visiting Pirates took a 4-2 lead after a 6-4, 6-2 victory at first singles by Chloe Sher and a 6-4, 7-5 win at the fifth spot by Shoemaker.
 
At sixth singles, Hannelore MacDonald battled out the only three-set tilt of the match, dropping the first frame, 7-5, but bouncing back for a 7-5, 11-9 victory.
 
NJIT will break and return to action on Friday, February 28 when the Highlanders visit Army in West Point, NY at 4pm.
