MONTCLAIR, NJ – NJIT men's swimming and diving team took first place in every event in their 142.5-89.5 victory over Montclair State Saturday afternoon.
Junior
Brian Capozzola led the Highlanders, placing first in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle events, clocking in at 20.95 and 46.41 respectively, to break the MSU Panzer Pool record in both events.
In the 1000-yard freestyle, NJIT finished 1-2, with
Richard Seffrin coming in first coming in at 9:54.84, and senior
Gene Tutzauer in second finishing in 10:33.16. Junior Seffrin's time was a MSU Panzer Pool record breaking time.
The Highlanders swept the 100-yard backstroke event with freshman
Scott Quirie taking first place (53.13), senior
Christian Giglio second place (55.73) and
Edward Mann third place (59.73).
Freshman
Collin Moore took first in both the 200-yard IM, finishing in 2:02.91, and the 100-yard butterfly in 53.10, while sophomore
Michael Sungurov won the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:48.73 and 500-yard freestyle in 4:59.09
In the 200-yard medley relay, NJIT came in first and third, with the 'A' team consisting of Giglio, Seffrin, Moore and sophomore
Jack Matusiak finishing in 1:40.38 and the 'B' team of Mann, sophomore
Timothy Sullivan, junior
Jonathan Drori and sophomore
Adam Bransky in 1:48.33.
Junior diver
David Schmidt placed first in the 1-meter dive recording 139.85 points.
Other notable Highlanders were: sophomore
Joseph Pedo, who finished the 50-yard freestyle in 23.77 to place third; freshman
Alexander Hilsamer, who was 5
th in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 13:10.71, and junior
Joseph Nguyen clocking in at 1:01.82 in the 100-yard butterfly.
NJIT heads to Islamorada,FL next for their Winter Training Trip, January 7-13.
