The NJIT women's basketball team will close out its four-game homestand, hosting first-time opponent Marshall on Sunday at 2pm in the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.

Fans can follow all the action live on www.njithighlanders.com, which will carry a live video stream and webcast play-by-play and commentary from Michael Ventola, as well as an in-game real-time stat feed. Coverage begins at 1:45 p.m. with tip-off set for 2 p.m.

The Highlanders are coming off an 84-37 loss at home on January 2 to a perennially strong Atlantic Coast Conference program Clemson. The Tigers were the first ACC team NJIT hosted at home in the Fleisher Athletic Center and third ACC team the Highlanders have faced since competing against a Division I schedule (NJIT began Division I competition in 2006-07).

NJIT is led by graduate student Shakia Robinson who is the only double-figure scorer on the team averaging 11.1ppg while ranking second on the team with 5.9rpg. Robinson is shooting 61 percent from the field (80-131) for the Highlanders.

Uju Nwankwo, the Highlanders 6-foot-1 forward is NJIT's second leading scorer with 8.9ppg and tops the team with 9.6rpg (ranked 57th in the nation) and 27 blocks (87th in the nation). Nwankwo has recorded at least one block or one steal in 13 out of 17 games this season.

The Thundering Herd and head coach Matt Daniel, in his second season at Marshall, enter Sunday's contest with an even 6-6 mark having played 7 of the first 8 and 10 of the first 12 regular-season games at home. The Herd played one away game (at Robert Morris – November 12) and one neutral site game (vs. West Virginia – December 14) and will play their first away game in 54 days at NJIT on Sunday.

Last season, Daniel went 9-21 in his Herd debut – 3-13 in Conference USA play. Prior to Marshall, Daniel spent four seasons at Central Arkansas, guiding UCA from Division II to the Division I level and guided a program that had two consecutive 20-loss seasons (2007-08 and 2008-09) to its first Division I conference championship (Southland Conference), two postseason tournaments ('12 WNIT, '11 WBI) and three straight 21-win seasons. He combined for a 72-50 overall record in four seasons at Central Arkansas.

The Herd's 2013-14 roster features the most newcomers (10) in Conference USA, including five freshmen, three junior college transfers and two NCAA Division I transfers. The Herd were selected 16th in the Conference USA Preseason Coaches Poll.

Marshall, winners of its last three out of four contests, is coming off an 86-72 victory over Davis & Elkins on December 31, 2013.

The Herd is led by junior Leah Scott, who has started all but one contest this season. No Herd player has started every single game for Marshall this season. Scott, the only double-figurer scorer on the team is averaging 11.7ppg and is coming off a 20-point performance against Davis & Elkins.

Junior guard AJ Johnson is the Herd's second leading scorer with 9.7ppg and is shooting 93 percent from the free throw line (24-26). Norrisha Victrum tops the team with 39 assists and share teams high honors with 16 steals.

Marshall has three players averaging from 6.5rpg to 6.9rpg. The top leader on the team is Chukwuka Ezeigbo (6.9rpg), Suporia Dickens (6.8rpg) and Chelsey Romero (6.5rpg). Romero is the team leader with 19 blocks followed by Ezeigbo with 16.
