2013 Award Winners
NEWARK, NJ—NJIT senior women's tennis player
Monika Graff was named 2013 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional winner of the Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship for the second consecutive season.
The ITA Arthur Ashe Award recognizes outstanding individuals in all divisions at the regional and national level. It is awarded to students-athletes who exhibit exceptional sportsmanship and leadership on the court, as well as scholastic, extracurricular, and tennis achievements.
Monika, who is enrolled in the Albert Dorman Honors College, has one more semester remaining at NJIT and will graduate in Decemeber with a mechanical engineering major, is no stranger to awards that combine athletics, academics, and citizenship.
The two-time Northeast Regional winner of the Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship is also a three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete. Graff was one of 12 regional winners.
She was recognized earlier this year by New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women “Woman of the Year” award.
On the court, she finished with a 12-6 overall record (9-6 at second singles, 2-0 at first singles and 1-0 at third singles) while teaming with doubles partner
Hannelore MacDonald for an 8-2 overall record (6-2 at the third spot, 2-0 at the second spot) and 4-1 with
Martina Tripcovici (at third doubles).
She is the President of the NJIT Student Athlete Advisory Committee and a Residence Assistant working for NJIT Residence Life.
