EDISON, NJ—Visiting Northern Kentucky nipped the NJIT men's tennis team, 4-3, Sunday at Thomas A. Edison Park in the season finale for both squads.
Northern Kentucky swept the doubles contests earning the doubles point and notched three out six singles contests for the 4-3 victory.
NJIT's
Markus Schultz was a 7-6(2), 6-4 winner at first singles over Guillaume Berman while classmate
Andres Alban won by identical scores at third singles, 6-4, 6-4 cruising past Pierce Kohls.
The Highlanders third point came at sixth singles, as senior
Fraser Croad won a hard fought three-set tilt against Balint Zsidai. Croad took the first frame, 7-6(5) and dropped the next set 7-5 but dug deep in the final frame for a 6-1 victory.
The 16 wins is the second highest win total for the Highlanders since they began playing a Division I schedule in 2006. The record stands at 18 wins accomplished in 2010, when the Highlanders finished 18-7.
