Women’s Tennis Tops Seton Hall, 6-1

NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT women's tennis team topped visiting Seton Hall Friday evening, 6-1, in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility improving to 4-0 at home.

NJIT took two out of three doubles contests and picked up five points in the singles competition, improving to 4-1 on the young season.

The Highlanders earned the doubles point with victories at second and third doubles.  NJIT's Brazilian combo Carolina Zanotta and Natalia Melibeu were 8-4 winners at the second spot followed by an 8-7(4) win at third doubles by Monika Graff and Hannelore MacDonald.

NJIT's Ksenia Kuzmenko was a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 winner at first singles over Seton Hall's Chloe Sher.

Graff, a double-winner on the day, won in straight sets at second singles over Rocio Portela, 6-0, 7-5.

Jana Luste defeated Seton Hall's Alex Landert, 6-1, 6-1 at third singles and Melibeu followed with a 7-6(6), 6-3 win at the fourth spot over Julia Keenan.

Zanotta earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the sixth spot cruising past Karina Cordero.

The only point for the visiting Pirates came in a three-set tilt at fifth singles.

NJIT will return to action on Saturday and host Rhode Island at 11:30am in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
