Tennis Wins 14th Straight Match; Sweeps Hartford, 7-0; Notches School DI-Best 18 Wins

WEST HARTFORD, CT—The NJIT women's tennis team won its 14th straight match of the season with a convincing, 7-0, victory at Hartford Sunday afternoon.
 
With the victory over Hartford on Sunday, the Highlanders improve to 18-2 overall.  The 18 overall wins are the highest total in NJIT's six seasons of Division I competition.  The team finished 17-8 last season and captured the 2011 Great West Conference Title.  
 
The Highlanders started off the match sweeping the doubles contests.  Nina Mayevska and Jana Luste won at first doubles, 8-1.  Mayevksa won by identical scores at second singles, 6-0, 6-0.
 
Hannelore MacDonald and Martina Tripcovici were 8-2 winners at second doubles.  Tripcovici and MacDonald won by identical scores at the fourth and fifth spot, 6-1, 6-1.
 
At third singles, Monika Graff and Carolina Zanotta posted an 8-1 victory over Hartford.  Graff won 6-1, 6-0 at third singles and teammate Megan Guidry, competing at sixth singles, won 6-0, 6-0.

Sophomore Ksenia Kuzmenko went the distance with Hartford's Abby Liu at first singles.  Kuzmenko took the first set 6-3, but was blanked in the next frame, 6-0.  The sophomore won the final set tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4) to earn the point.
 
The Highlanders will return to action on April 10 at Stony Brook at 2:30pm.
