Women’s Tennis Win Streak Ends at 14; Stony Brook Edges NJIT, 4-3

STONY BROOK, NY—The NJIT women's tennis win streak came to a halt Tuesday afternoon as Stony Brook edged the Highlanders, 4-3.
 
NJIT (18-3) held a 14-match win streak dated back to February 12 when the Highlanders nipped Pittsburgh, 4-3.
 
The Highlanders earned the doubles point taking two out of three contests.  Sophomores Ksenia Kuzmenko and Hannelore MacDonald were 8-4 winners at second doubles and Highlander duo Monika Graff and Carolina Zanotta followed up with a 9-7 win at the third spot.
 
In singles competition, Stony Brook (7-6) won four out of six contests to earn the 4-3 victory.
 
Doubles partners Graff and Zanotta were double winners on the day, first with Graff going the distance at third singles with Stony Brook's Katherine Hanson.  Hanson took the first set, 6-4, but it was NJIT's Graff who followed up with a 6-3, 10-4 victory to earn the point.
 
Zanotta, competing at fourth singles, defeated Stony Brook's Salome Mkervalidze in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
 
The Highlanders will wrap up the regular season on April 14 at Queens (NY) before heading to the Great West Conference Tournament on April 21-22, hosted by Texas-Pan American.
