NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's tennis team defeated visiting Lafayette, 6-1, recording the team's sixth straight win of the 2012 season Sunday at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
The Highlanders (9-2 overall, 7-2 at home) swept the doubles contests and were winners of five out of six singles contests.
Highlander duo
Petr Rousar and
Victor Martinez were 8-5 winners at first doubles. Rousar was downed at second singles in a three-set tilt over Lafayette's Brandon Goldstein, 7-5, 5-7, 10-7. Martinez, competing at third singles, won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 over Will Mercorella.
NJIT's
Holger Norregaard and
Ike Kiro topped Lafayette's Scott Gelbman and Sinan Ipecker, 8-4 at the second spot. Norregaard was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at first singles while Kiro was a straight set winner at fourth signles, 6-4, 6-2.
Senior
Bryan Keelan and teammate
Joao Tasca teamed for an 8-3 victory at third doubles. Tasca was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at fifth singles while
Fraser Croad followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the sixth spot.
The Highlanders will break until Spring Break in Orlando, Florida. NJIT will face Valparaiso on Monday, March 12 at 10am.
