NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT women's tennis team swept visiting Manhattan, 7-0, Friday evening at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
The Highlanders swept the six singles contests and all three doubles contests improving to 3-0 on the season.
NJIT's pair
Jana Luste and
Nina Mayevska got the Highlanders rolling with a 8-6 victory at first doubles over Manhattan's Lili Johnson and Brianna Turano.
The Highlanders won by identical scores at second and third doubles, 8-0.
Ksenia Kuzmenko and
Hannelore MacDonald were winners at the second spot followed by
Carolina Zanotta and
Monika Graff at third doubles.
Kuzmenko and four other Highlanders won in straight sets Friday, with the only three-set tilt coming at six singles. Kuzmenko started things off with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at first singles over Johnson.
Luste, at second singles, was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Manhattan's Hilary Valenzuela. Senior Mayevska and sophomore
Martina Tripcovici won by identical scores at third and fourth singles. MacDonald was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at the fifth spot over Stephanie Tsao, 6-1, 6-0.
At six singles,
Megan Guidry went the distance with Manhattan's Christina Ton. NJIT's Guidry took the first set, 6-4, but Jasper's Ton won the next frame, 6-3. Guidry came out on top in the third set, 10-8, to earn the final point.
NJIT will return to action on Saturday at 3:30 when the Highlanders host Long Island at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
