NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT men's tennis team won its fifth straight match with a convincing 6-1 victory over visiting LaSalle Saturday afternoon at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
The Highlanders, who hold an 8-2 record on the season, began its wining streak on February 18 with victories over Saint Francis (NY) and Villanova.
Saturday, the Highlanders started off the match sweeping the doubles competition. At first doubles,
Petr Rousar and
Victor Martinez topped LaSalle's Chas Berenato and De'Sean Fennell, 8-6.
Holger Norregaard and
Ike Kiro teamed for an 8-4 victory at the second spot followed by a 8-3 win by
Bryan Keelan and
Joao Tasca.
In singles competition, Norregaard won by identical scores at first singles, 6-0, 6-0 over LaSalle's Berenato. Rousar followed with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at second singles.
Kiro, competing at the third spot, was downed in a three-set tilt by LaSalle's Joe LaBate, the only point of the day for the visitors. Kiro won the first set 6-2, but fell in the final two frames 6-3, 7-6(5).
Martinez played a close first set at fourth singles with LaSalle's Trevor Donovan, as Martinez came out on top, 7-6(4) and took the second set, 6-4.
Fraser Croad and
Dan Salomon won in straight sets at the fifth and sixth spot for NJIT. Croad won 6-1, 6-2 and Salomon combined for a 6-4, 6-0 victory at sixth singles.
The Highlanders will wrap up its nine-game homestead on Saturday, March 4 hosting Lafayette at Noon.
