UNIVERSITY PARK, PA
Daniel Rondon was the top finisher and scorer for the NJIT men's cross country team Friday at the NCAA Division I Mid-Atlantic Regional race hosted by Penn State.

Twenty-five total teams competed in the regional event to determine the teams and runners that would advance to the NCAA National Championship.

The NJIT men's team finished 18th out of 25 teams ahead of Monmouth and Seton Hall.

Rondon, the junior Highlander, ran the 10k race in 32:05.45, finishing 65th.  Last season, Rondon placed 83rd with a time of 32:40.  Rondon's time on Friday is a new NJIT school-record which was held by Brian Mendez in 2010.

Senior Christian Baumbach finished 89th (32:38.70) for the Highlanders while Brian Mendez, who was the top finisher for NJIT last year, placed 115th at 33.29.20.

Junior Scott Rizzo placed 124th (33.44.55), Moheb Thomas 149th (34.56.60) while Jonathan Daudelin and Andrew Nashed finished side by side 154th and 155th.

NJIT will return to action on Sunday when the Highlanders host the Nick Russo Halloween Classic at Noon at Branch Brook Park.
