Women’s Tennis Blanks Seton Hall

NEWARK
, NJ – The NJIT women's tennis team improved to 13-8 on the season with a 7-0 victory over Seton Hall Thursday afternoon at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.

 

The match was originally scheduled to be played on the campus of Seton Hall.

 

NJIT recorded its second straight 7-0 win Thursday over Big East Seton Hall.  The Highlanders topped Sacred Heart, 7-0, on April 10.

 

In doubles competition, doubles pair Ksenia Kuzmenko and Hannelore MacDonald were 8-3 winners at the second spot. 

 

Kuzmenko, playing at first singles was victorious in a three-set tilt over Seton Hall's Pui Wing Sher, 2-6, 7-5, 10-8.  MacDonald won 6-0, 3-0 retired at sixth singles.

 

Highlander duo Monika Graff and Ana Lidon swept the Pirates Karina Cordero and Belfin Sunbul, 8-0, at third doubles to earn the point.  Graff won in straight sets at third singles, 6-4, 6-0.

 

Senior Nina Mayevska took a 6-4, 7-5 win at second singles while teammate Jana Luste won 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles. 

 

Freshman Martina Tripcovici fell in the opening set at fifth singles to Seton Hall's Cordero but bounced back to claim the win, 6-3, 10-7.

 

The Highlanders will wrap up the regular season hosting Queens (NY) on Saturday at 1pm in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility before heading the to Great West Conference Tournament in Chicago on April 30.
