NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT women's tennis team downed Sacred Heart by a score of 7-0 Sunday at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
NJIT (12-8), whose six-match win streak was snapped on Saturday vs. Stony Brook, bounced back on Sunday sweeping the singles and doubles contests from Sacred Heart.
Doubles pair Nina Mayevska and Jana Luste defeated Sacred Heart's Gabi Kaldan and Darcy Demers, 8-1, at first doubles. Mayevska won in straight sets at first singles, 6-3, 6-0 while Luste also won in straight sets, at the fourth spot over Demers.
The freshman duo of Ksenia Kuzmenko and Hannelore MacDonald blanked Sacred Heart's Elizabeth Harrington and Kristina Chao at second doubles, 8-0. MacDonald was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at fifth singles.
Senior Ana Lidon and freshman Monkia Graff teamed for an 8-6 victory at third doubles. Graff defeated Harrington 6-3, 6-2 at second singles.
Martina Tripcovici competing at third singles won in a three-set tilt over Kaldan, 4-6, 7-5, 10-7.
The Highlanders are off until Thursday, April 21 when the team visits Seton Hall.
