EASTON, PA—It took the doubles point to decide Saturday's men's tennis match between visiting NJIT and Lafayette and, unfortunately for the Highlanders, the Leopards prevailed 2-1 in doubles for a 4-3 match win.
NJIT, 2-3 following Saturday's defeat, won at first, fourth, and sixth singles, while falling at second (in three sets), third, and fifth singles. The Highlanders took first doubles, 8-6, but lost second doubles decisively (1-8) and third doubles, 8-6. With the win, Lafayette's record goes to 3-1.
Petr Rousar was 7-5, 7-5 winner for the Highlanders in first singles, while Dan Saloman won at four, 7-5, 6-0, and Fraser Croad took a 6-2, 7-6 decision at number six. Ike Kiro won the first set at number two, 6-3, but Lafayette's Doug Gallagher battled back to win the next two sets.
Kiro and Martin Cederqvist won first doubles for NJIT, but Lafayette won second doubles handily and Andrew Morris and Scott Gelbam of the Leopards nipped Highlanders Joao Tasca and Croad, 8-6, in third doubles to claim the decisive doubles point.
