BRONX, NY – The NJIT men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened up the 2011-12 season Friday at the 2011 Fordham Opener at the Lombardi Center Fieldhouse.
Freshman
Esther Alfaro broke the 60 meter hurdles record with a time of 10.4 and was joined by
Kelly Smith,
Alexandra Arnold and
Maryam Haque in breaking the freshman sprint medley record in 4:47.0.
The varsity sprint medley was also broken by
Megan Higgins,
Kelsey Jackson,
Breanna Gunnarson and
Victoria Creque-Steele with a time of 4:39.0.
Other top 3 finishers included:
Ewelina Marut, who placed second in the 3000m with a time of 11:01.8, Arnold took second in the high jump with a 1.40m (4-7) and
Kelsey Jackson, placed third in the 200 meter with a time of 27.1.
On the men's side, there was a fair share of performances starting with
Jonathan Antigua breaking the 60 meter freshman record in 7.1 finishing third.
John Porteous broke the 60 meter hurdles record with a 8.4, taking second and in the 400 with at 51.7.
Caravaglia broke the freshman shot put and weight throw with 12.58m (41-03.25) and 7.89m (25-10.75) respectfully.
The sprint medley relay consisting of
Adam Morgan,
Morgan Akins, Damis, and
Moheb Thomas broke the varsity record with a
3:43.9. The freshman sprint medley relay consisting of Matthew Brown,
Evan Walton, Porteous, and
Andrew Nashed broke the freshman
record with a 4:01.5.
