, UT – The NJIT women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at Utah Valley Thursday as both teams opened Great West Conference play in The Activity Center.

 

The Wolverines, who finished second in the Great West Conference last season and are the preseason coaches' poll pick to finish second again in 2010, defeated the Highlanders by the scores of 25-21, 25-15, and 25-15. 

 

The Highlanders were led by sophomore hitter Janet Snell with nine kills.  Senior Baaba Hughes combined for six kills and freshman Katie Bartlett added five.  Freshman Julia Colombo hit .667 for the match (4 kills, 0 errors, 6 attempts) for NJIT.

 

Setters Anna Mercado and Carly Ziemer each collected 11 assists while libero Audrey Snell led the squad with 12 digs.

 

Utah Valley was paced by Kayli Doxey's 12 kills, five digs and two service aces.  Katherine Stevens recorded double-digits defensively, with a match-high 13 digs followed by Chelsey Heaps' 10 digs.  Brookelyn Campbell piled up 30 assists for the home team, whichwon its fourth straight match. 

 

NJIT will travel to Great West Conference opponent Chicago State on Saturday.  The match is scheduled for Noon (CT).
