EMMITSBURG, MD
—NJIT and Mount St. Mary's played for 110 minutes on Sunday and ended in a 1-1 tie in non-conference women's soccer at the Mount's Waldron Family Stadium.

The Highlanders (1-4-1) got on the board first, as sophomore Amanda Dotten netted her first goal of the year, assisted by Piper Lunan, at 19:38. The assist was Lunan's first of 2010.

Sunday's slender lead held up until the 83rd minute, when Mount St. Mary's (2-3-2) pulled even on a score by sophomore Kelly Baker, who notched her second goal of the season.

She took a through ball from midfield and broke in one-on-one, tying the game with 7:04 left in regulation. Ragan Cote assisted on the play, which fit the same description as Wagner's winning goal in the 82nd minute of its 1-0 win over the Highlanders two days earlier.

On Sunday, neither team scored through the remaining seven minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime.

There were no shots on goal in overtime, but NJIT's goalkeeper Sadie Mele made a big play, nonetheless, roaming 20 yards into the field, where she took the ball off the feet of Cote, who had broken free at the top of the box.

Mele finished the match with eight saves, including a big stop on Baker in the second half. Her counterpart for the Mountaineers, who are 2-0-2 at home, junior Alicia Miller, made five saves.

The shots stood at 22-10 for the Mount, including 9-6 in shots on goal. The corner kicks were 7-5 for the home team. NJIT caught Mount St. Mary's offside 15 times, while the Highlanders did not go off once.

Dotten's goal for NJIT came when she received a pass from Lunan and lofted a shot into the upper right corner.

NJIT and Mount St. Mary's also tied 1-1 when they met in Newark on September 18, 2009.

The Highlanders, who began a stretch of three straight road matches with the visit to Mount St. Mary's, will return to action on Friday with a 7 pm match in Easton, PA, where they will take on Lafayette. The Leopards beat NJIT, 1-0, last September.
